A Drop of Sunlight

It was a drop of sunlight

That fell upon my face and

Dripped down to the tips of my fingers,

Spilling quietly to the ground.

It felt like a kiss fluttering

On my oft-forsaken cheek

Or a butterfly brushing softly by

In the dawn of summer.

I wish I could invite it down,

That small morsel of light,

To dance among the shadows and I

For just one night.

In that moment,

My heart reached out to embrace

The entire world in one beat.

It was a drop sunlight

That fell upon my face,

And I could never forget.
