Generation Millennium is losing touch with the past

Especially with rock n roll

which was a great influence in my life

I wouldn't be who I am today with out it

But this generation is forgetting where it all started

We know the history of this country and the civil rights movement

But what we can't find in textbooks is the musicians

They struggled right beside those civil rights leaders .

While they activists marched to Washington

the musicians were breaking the barriers in music

creating new styles and fashion

probably paved the way for our lifestyle today

It's up to us to keep their legacy's alive

and educated for years to come

We can't forget chuck Berry the Father of Rock n Roll

little Richard with his Boogie woogie piano style

and his Gospel style of music.

Way before people like Justin Beiber used to get the girl going wild

who was the first to do it?

Elvis with his trademark look

and the swinging of his hips that make the girls scream

and the parents sick to their stomachs

Who could forget Ray Charles

and his Gospel rhythm and blues infused music

that will haunt your body

What about Berry Gordy Jr.

and probably one of the greatest things somebody

has given to this world, Motown.

Always so busy with legendary sounds

like Mary Wells ,The Supremes or the Temptations and of course

The Jackson 5

and the legendary song writing teams of Smokey Robinson

Holland Dozier Holland and Norman Whitfield

At the same time as these iconic music was being made

the great sounds of Otis Redding backed by Booker T. and MG's

was flowing through the air.

While that was going on The Queen of Soul

was blessing the world with her voice

in the deep south of Alabama in Muscle Shoals

Aretha Franklin was a legend being born

After Dr. King was assassinated

Came the birth of Funk .

James Brown and the way he owned the stage

These pioneers morphed the way of the world

just as much as the activists marching to the steps of Washington

Not just racially but our lifestyles

the way we talk the way we walk

the way we dress and the things we do

They were more then musicians

who blessed this word with their sound

We owe more to them then we realize

We need to keep their legacy alive
