Don’t ask me why,

Don’t ask me why, I sit here and cry.
Do not question me when I laugh at a joke,
Or why I said the word I spoke.
Do not ask me to hate, to love, to care, to believe, for I am my own person you see,
And the only thing I know best is me.
Do not tell me I’m weird or crazy, foolish or dumb,
Do not tell me it will be okay, when my feelings are numb.
Ask me not why, but what,
Do not try to interject in my words with but!
I am one person, that is all I will remain,
Do not ask me, for my life and values are what I will sustain.
Do not tell me if it is right or wrong or how it should be,
I will end that book my way, an ending so sad, an ending so happy.
I will believe the truth versus a lie when I see it,
Don’t ask me if it is too loose for me, or too big; only I know if it will fit.
Do not tell me I am a harsh person, who lets nobody in,
Do not assume something when simply you are not living under my skin.
And though you think you do, or you know how I feel about the cloudy sky,
Do not ask me why, I sit here and cry.
