Do you remember the pain,

Do you remember the pain, little girl?
I remember you often and I trace the path where your tears you let freely flow.
Do you remember the laughter, little one?
I wish you were a part of me still and I ache for the chaos that was you.
You, so small and so discontent but laughing all the same, tearing life to shreds
And dancing on the air
You reached down and touched fingertips of love and of death and you never
Stopped to think you might fall down.

Will you remember the pain, I ask you?
Can you answer my questions as if I am not empty?
Are you happy, I wonder?
Do you still dance across these greyed and withered clouds?
Touching the brims of hats and the eyes of the old
So that you may tip over once again
Did you begin to laugh when you thought you could not?
Can you answer my questions as if I am still here?
