To Do
Why am I not me to society?
They categorize me to fit their standards
That deny my essence like cancer
Because the pinnacle cannot handle
That my identity is not scandal
Self-expression through my hair
Is no longer my own, it’s not fair
That when it is straight it’s neat
But creative curly conditioned to retreat
By “my” own people of inferior
Trying to conform to superior
It’s ironic that community is preached
But exclusiveness is reached
That acceptance is what we teach
But discrimination creates a breach
And the whole justice spew is cute
Dissecting the problem to the root
But then leave the plant dead without a clue
With equality and rights that are long over due
Judged if you are, judged if you’re not
My diverse identity denied in the melting pot
That promised to appreciate what I bring to the table
But all connotations against my groups are unstable
Yes I’m black, but I’m not ghetto or loud
Yes I’m a woman, but I fear to be proud
Because standing for rights makes me a radical
But what I speak is not passion, but factual
The dominant culture may have confused some
Wait that’s society, which is run by power hungry bums
Who are able to bend the minds of everyone
To separate the cultures so there can only be a top one
I am not attacking individuals, only ideas and schemes
That prosper by crushing hopes and dreams
I understand it is never the majority, just one bad seed
That steals energy from others, maybe out of greed
So it’s time to bring the hate to its knees
And allow space for people to breathe
We’ll have issues that we’ll disagree
But I encourage freedom of speech
Because ignoring the prejudice in you and me
Denies the air that we need to be free
I do not end this, instead I begin
To fuel the voices soaked in sin
