Distorted Perceptions of Reality

They look so peaceful,

Asleep in their glass chambers—

with a blanket of calmness,

spread over their faces.

In each one’s mind lies a piece of metal

Glinting, cold, controlling.

This metal device is the key

to each one’s happiness.

In one’s mind,

A small child slurps his ice cream joyfully,

His legs dangle from the swing his father pushes.

Yet in another’s mind,

An old man laughs heartily as he fishes with his son,

the joy of his life.

In everyone’s mind,

Happy moments are occurring

as they sleep,

unknowingly.

These projections,

each one’s happy truth,

become grotesque realities.

These truths encompass their thoughts,

Shrouding them from the pains true society presents.

Yet all is a false hope,

despite their cheerfulness,

their wholesome nature.

A complete resolution.

Once the hardware is lifted

Once their ‘reality’ is removed

a white light blinds them,

a darkness without depth,

stirs their heart.

The core of their apple

The brainchild, the knowledge

all is a lie, all is gone.
