Distinct

Throughout my life,

I have experienced many diffficulties.

As a young child of six, it was tough trying to find myself.

I would always do what my sisters did: I sang in choir, suffered through band, and joined girl scouts.

I loathed it.

Then I went to middle school and began to experiment with new activities.

I tested out various clubs and sports, sticking to the ones I liked and quitting the ones I didn't. I did many firsts in my family, to both the approval and disapproval of my parents.

First to play lacrosse, first to join the history club, first to quit band.

I finally have the courage to be myself, to try new things, to be distinct.

I had to fight for it, but in the end it was worth it, because in the end

I found myself.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
