I want to be near you

Distance is a deviant desiring to drive us apart

Miles stretching between us laugh in my face

Taunt me with the prospect of conquering them by

Car or train or bus

Plane or parasail or canoe

I want to be near you

The only difference between you being there not here

Is that little “t”

And it literally kills me

There are only so many verbs adjectives and nouns

To be sent over text or phone line before the

Only adjective I care about is “close”

Only verb I care about is “touch”

Only noun I care about is “you”

I am far past that point

It transcends just being together

It’s the perfection of our simultaneous proximate existence

It’s “being” together

Living and breathing together

Someone who spends every second with their sweetheart

Forgets how the simple gift of mutual presence snatches the air out of lungs

You are breath taking

When the waiting wears me and withers me to bone

I hold my breath and threaten

Some unseen power that I won’t exhale until deliver you to me

My lungs plead for oxygen

My skin turns pale

I’m a child in a tantrum

I won’t cease until I seize my security blanket

Until you are wrapped around me

Because with you is the only place it makes sense to be
