A Disease?

Don’t hate; now is not the time to discriminate.

Get rid of all your harmful pride,

Homophobia is frowned upon nationwide.

Why do you care who I love?

Do you really think that GOD above

Would die for all his people,

Just to throw them off a steeple?

We’re all taught of liberty,

How all men are created free.

So where are my rights?

Why do you keep them, with all your might,

Out of reach and out of sight?

When will this country be true

To the flag waving red white and blue?

Why do you judge,

Drag my name through this sludge?

I’m exhausted, my dance is a trudge.

Why can’t you see, I’m only me?

I’m nothing to fear, yet as I stand here,

I see the unease in your eyes as you cower behind lies.

Why do you dictate who I marry?

Or what kind of child I may carry?

Just because I am gay,

Doesn’t mean I have AIDS.

So why do you keep me from donating blood?

I am not just the mud that is under your feet.

Why can you not meet my expectation

To lead our nation from all the speculation?

The disease is not homosexuality;

It is your mentality.
