Depressing can be a blessing

It started in the class of creative writing

The assigned poetry reading was inspiring

Three of my family members passed away that year

Poetry was how I coped with losing people I held dear

Through writing, I learned that what I hate about funerals

Is that everyone talks in past tense

About every characteristic, memory, and sense

Loved this, did that, left us behind.

It leaves us with anxious feelings on our mind

Those were stanzas from a poem I created

When I put my feelings down on paper,

I felt  elated.

Pain turned into beauty

While I searched for the right imagery

I learned that it is okay to feel

The pain we experience is very real

However, the words we say don’t have to be depressing

If we search for beauty in the hard times,

We will see that heart break

Can be a blessing

This poem is about:
Me
My family
