In Defense of Nice

It doesn't mean anything,

or it isn't strong enough,

so maybe you shouldn't

hang onto it like

a life preserver.

But it's who I am,

it's the only thing I have,

and it's the best thing you can have,

because nice

is holding doors open

and giving compliments

and feeding the hungry

and fishing pollution out of our water

and saving the world

and you can grab onto "smart"

or "fun" or "beautiful"

but you'll drown

in the not nice.

It's the most powerful tool we have and

as long as I am nice

I stay afloat.
