2 Peter 1:5-6 

 

5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence,

add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 

to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance,

to perseverance godliness,

 

 

Contra

 

Basic contradiction striving very deep within me

As the unexpected happens it moves without blinking

Who now in me steps forward … guess who it will be?

As I act impulsively and words flow without thinking.

 

When I rise to the occasion and the sensible strives in me

Will peace and calm reside ... as a foundation of reason?

To set the direction ... of where this ship should be

Another “me” is at the helm ignoring the stormy season

 

No one understands so well the power of the flesh.

No one knows the better ... how changeable I am.

No one seems so helpless when this power flaws my best

But someone curbs my appetite and knows my every season.
