December Nightmares

Remember when I was 3 and the party got loud. You took me to your granddaughter's playroom, you said this is how you show someone you care. I went home crying, my parents thought I was just tired.

Remember when I was 4 everyone was outside singing. Sharing cookies and presents you said if I run "Mommy would end up dead."

I cried, you told them I fell in the bushes.

Remember when I was 8 you reminded me  about the "special" gift you promised me on thanksgiving.. It was the same gift I got every holiday. You beat me till I fell "asleep"

Remember when I was 11, you pushed me to the floor. Told me, "I'd never forget this."

I went home no tears in my eyes, no look of sadness. I went home empty.
