Debt of a Better Life

America, the land of opportunity

A country under scrutiny.

Promising dreams to inspire a nation

But only with the proper education.

Those with privilege have no doubts,

Their money has seen no droughts.

They go to school without hesitation

Get good grades through imitation.

Many must fight for their college tuition

Amongst all the opposition.

They get good grades like those above

But it is simply a matter of

Average brains, consumed by worry

About paying for funding, the futures blurry.

Versus those with money from a parent’s fund.

Those who can’t pay are faced to be dunned.

They take out loans with lots of zeros,

They’ll work a lifetime for a chance to be heroes.

Crushing debt in exchange for a better life

But those on top prove its worth the strife.

Getting an education shouldn’t be a privilege

In an ever-changing world, there shouldn’t be a shortage

Of those willing to learn and put up a fight

To educate themselves, it should be a right.
