Deaf. ______.

Fri, 01/17/2014 - 09:45 -- Vann

Deaf. Animal.

We see them with their hands flying around, their faces making expressions not normally seen and think, “Surely they can’t be human.”

Deaf. Broken.

We see them struggle to communicate and think, “Surely they can’t be whole.”

Deaf. Stuck.

We see them in a world of silence and wonder how they survive without the joy of music and sound.

Deaf. Fix.

We try and try to find a “cure.” Something that allows them to be normal.

And the Deaf say…Hearing. Wrong.

Deaf. Can.

Deaf can do everything the hearing can do except hear.

Deaf. Culture.

Deaf have a culture, a language, traditions, customs, history…they are people!

Deaf. Pride.

This is not a hearing world…it is a human world. They are proud of their Deaf identity.

Deaf. Me?

No. I am hearing. Trying to understand a Deaf World.
