The Day You Found Out

Dear Dreamer,

The day you found out that your future would be determined by

a few documents and a serial number,

your life seemed to have taken a sudden sharp turn at the age of seven.

You envisioned yourself going to college, reaching for the skies and maybe even heaven.

But, all these years have consisted of stressing over these

few documents and a serial number.

You are defined as an outsider; You are defined as an alien.

But are you really an extraterrestrial coming from planet Venus?

People think you have a weakness; You are labeled as a criminal,

But you are strong and you are above society's norms.

The day you found out you would be judged by society

Made you realize you’d be moving in the shadows silently.

You were frightened by the thousands of eyes and mouths judging you.

Everyday you are still reminded of your reality.

The day you found out your future would be determined by

a few documents and a serial number,

You didn’t realize how strong you actually were.

The day you found out your future would be determined by

a few documents and a serial number,

You didn’t see yourself reaching for the stars.

But you are not defined by the law or much less,

These few documents and a serial number…

Sincerely,

Your fellow peer
