Day Three

To my long and greying friend,

gracing the corner where

my end-table could not fit

and my lamp left glares in my

late-night television;

to my houseplant.

We've been together

for quite some time now

and I want you to know just

how much you mean to me

You've met my friends and

watched them leave;

the sole survivor

When I water you

with my aspirations

and trim your weakness

do you understand

my dependence

Away from you

I am left to my vices

silence dragging my thoughts

by threads

to the battlefront

there is war without you,

my most important responsibility

and I am sweeping your dying bits

how dare you

drag this out

Leave me to my vices

and my voices

fall away

all at once.
