David

I remember the day mom couldn't pick me up from school so you and Joey came to get me.

I smiled and laughed when I saw you.

You teased me and playfully called me short

And I ran home so fast that when I looked behind me you were nowhere to be found.

The fireworks went off and you lifted me up so I could see.

We lit sparklers and drew our names on the cement.

The night grew even darker and and the stars were the brightest we had ever seen.

You, Cassandra, and I gazed at the stars,

And you told me one day I’d shine brighter them.

Winter had come and gone and grandma wasn’t here anymore.

You weren't here you were caught up in your own world,

Your own existence.

Then your existence caught up to you.

You finally had to pay for the pain you caused.

The day of the visit came and we embraced each other.

No words came out, there were tears in mom's eyes and a smile on her face.

We laughed, played cards, and I was silent.

I want you to know that I read your letter.

I cried.

You said you wished me the best.
