A Dark Matter

Mon, 08/29/2022 - 16:30 -- Grant12

Love is feeling homesick

for a place you have never been

Or the urn you keep on the mantle

filled with your father's remains

Love is that drive to the vet with your best friend

who was shown to be riddled with cancer

Or the papers you served your wife who you love

but no longer loves you

Love is that medal you got in the war

that you can't throw away

so you keep in a drawer

Or confessing to the God who made you

sins that only he can forgive

Love is that look you gave your child

when they were first born

And the look they gave you

when they left home for the last time

Love is something we all hope to find

Only to learn later that it's something else entirely

True love takes courage

And should not be taken lightly

It can cause you to suffer

feel lost and have regrets

Yet it is the Dark Matter

that binds us to each other

and holds the very stars in place

Love can give your life meaning

as sure as it can kill

And the strange part of it all

The choices never yours to make

So you say you want someone to love

or for someone to love you

Go right ahead

But don't say I didn't warn you

I wrote this early in my divorce when I still love my wife

strange how things will change
