Dancing with my Mother
Location
Child, so humble, so innocent
Sun-kissed by golden streaks of warmth,
Ray's gift of beauty to us.
Hush, listen, for on summer days
Like these, you can hear the wind
Whispering secrets, tales of creation.
A child with a spirit so free, whimsical,
Finding laughter and joy hidden
In a place forgotten- destroyed
By industries, monsters of recreation,
Killing our land, our home.
Escape to a place where the child-
The child within your soul can find its peace,
Where simplicity is found in abundance.
Lay beneath your Grandmother Willow.
Caress the Earth.
Dance with your Mother.

I really love the personification of mother nature in this poem. It's very subtle at first, yet you then clearly state the problem that we're currently facing (mass developments, destruction of forests and wildlife shelters). The play on words with "monsters of recreation" is wonderful--it brings to mind not only the "play" area for the child within oneself, but also the fact that regrowth is made impossible by this destruction. I'd love to see more of a development on this topic. Great job!
