Counsel

Proverbs 20:5    New English Translation

5 Counsel in a person’s heart is like deep water,

but an understanding person draws it out.

Here you are in my thoughts, almost like a stranger

Someone I know so well is searching for my advice

How could I give this and not tread on danger?

As my personal feeling may interfere once or twice

About one thing, I’m happy I have a child as old as you

So I fully realize that manhood fades away and ages

Reality always presents in wrinkles, pains, and clues

These show me daily the brittleness of changing pages

So I, deep inside, hope that my advice is sufficient

And brings thoughts to reality in the ways you have to go

Life so often takes us to where we decide not to be too proficient

For as our uncertain future appears very often as unknown
