If there’s one thing that makes me cry

It’s seeing the cold tears from my mother’s eyes

That fall because she tries to pay

For an education that will help us one day

An education that is free to the poor

An education that I want more and more

An education that costs so little to some

And education that will help me overcome

The cold days when I worry about my future

The reality that I hope will end sooner

The days when I only focus on paying for college

The days that I cry as I yearn for expensive knowledge

So if there is one thing that I would change

It’s the rising cost of education today

I would create a program to help those that yearn

For knowledge that can only be learned

In a community full of other scholars

In a community that continues to grow larger

In an environment where we can feel safe

In an environment where we can create

Peace and equality for all

Friendships that begin in the dining halls

Opportunities for those who strive

For beginnings that change our lives
