Convoluted

Once upon a time,

in an ocean far away,

I ruled the sea with justice,

I ruled the sea with praise.

I pleased all of my people

and gave them what they wanted,

but my brother had a different plan,

and a different plan he plotted.

As a woman on the throne,

a peacekeeper of the sea,

how was I supposed to know

my own brother despised me?

He saw the power I wielded,

he saw the way I thrived,

and I guess he thought it best

if my throne I was deprived.

He ripped me from my palace

and stuck me in a cave.

He took my power and told my people

I had gone insane.

So of course I was angry and bitter,

I truly did no wrong.

And what better time to strike revenge

when his daughter came along?

Little Ariel was so lovestruck

on that day she came to me,

and although she did no wrong,

it was my only opportunity.

Maybe if my brother saw

the way she disrespected him,

I'd have my chance at power

in the way I could affect him.

I hoped his anger and rage

would make the people want me back,

since they couldn't trust a tyrant

who truly would go mad.

But no, it all went awry

once my plan was executed,

and the stories that they spread of me

turned out so convoluted.
