Utter silence.

Tiny, droplets of rain dance on the roof and my eyes flutter closed in contentment.

My warm sheets root me to the past, present, and future

All at once a sense of equilibrium fills my entire being, warming my blood and comforting me from head to toe.

Three cats are sprawled out lazily around, smiles of pure bliss peaking through their smooth furs - the faintest whisper of a snore whistles through a cold, wet nose

Puppies lay beside me, their legs twitching slightly from the flight of a dream.

No one’s home, yet no lonely thoughts torment my mind.

The smooth laptop keys keep me company; the promising excitement of a blank document stares me in the face, longing for ready thoughts to be turned into substance.

A chocolate milk mug nestles between my grasped hands and when I bring the creamy liquid to my lips, inspiration strikes.

My hands instantly fly across the black keys and the words are flowing from my thoughts, forming into eloquent poetry - the scene of a translucent stream, breaking loose through a rock's crevices to pool into a friendly brook.

It takes no effort.

No struggle

A gentle breeze sneaks through the window, tickling my face, tender as a feather

I pull my sheets over my arms, trapping the heat in around me.

The door opens across the hall and my peace is disturbed abruptly.

I close my laptop, saving my passage for another time of blissful lonesome and I zip it into my backpack where it will stay until inspiration strikes again -

For a contented escape
