Contemplation
Psalm 139:1-3
Psalm 139
For the music director, a psalm of David.
1 O Lord, you examine me and know.
2 You know when I sit down and when I get up;
even from far away you understand my motives.
3 You carefully observe me when I travel or when I lie down to rest;
you are aware of everything I do.
Contemplation.
When I lay down to sleep and my mind starts to weep,
for it wants to control at all times.
Well! The flesh I understand … walks with the mind in hand
but my heart wants to fade in time.
When my flesh is at rest and my thoughts at their best.
The Spirit is wide awake.
He never needs rest ... always strong ready to test
interceding night and day.
As the Lord searches my ways with my flesh held at bay.
He examines the corners of my heart.
The things that He sees as His will for me He leaves
developed choices through the intent of the heart.
Rewards of the world … at Eternity are hurled
depend on the way that I choose.
Excuses all gone … when the day is done
as in everlasting I win or lose.
If I try to fake out … creation's loud shout
that God's best is done in my sleep.
The secrets of life … in peace without strife
are shown by Spirit indeed.
To Saints in the past … instructions that last
were given at times to the flesh,
when out of the way …mostly night seldom the day
where the Spirit communicates best.
So when it is night … to me all is bright
as the prince of darkness fades away.
But why by day's light … the darkness seems right
as that prince parasite the day.
But my Morning Star … in the day seems far
as at night, it brightens my day.
He shines in my soul … and keeps me whole
He fills my heart in His way.
So if I stumble and fall … not appearing too tall
as I travel life's path day today.
I’ll remember for sure … in Christ to endure
to live Life's Only Way
So if good you see … or love living through me
it is Christ changing my ways.
My flesh fights it hard … loves itself, not too smart,
as my spirit in Christ loves the day.
