The Colors of Our Souls

In possibly the brightest colors

Words have taught me many things

They help me through my hardest times

And remind me why the bluebird sings

I have spoken a thousand words out loud

Ha! But in my mind?

Ten- nay, one hundred thousand sound

And with my soul are signed

Poetry is a song without a chord

But if you listen silently

You may hear the heartbeat of another

Beating ever so quietly

Our words can search our souls

They turn us up upon the earth

They show the world who we are

Maybe even determine our worth

Words have taught me what love sounds like

It has proven to me that pain is true

I have seen a soul in a stanza

In colors brighter than any green, red, or blue

Our souls are in our poetry

Our hearts are on the wall

We are projected on the stage

In the brightest colors of them all

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
