Closed Minds And Selective Hearts

They say people never change,
But I'd like to change the people.
No, not the ones who know acceptance
Or the ones that wipe the tables clean
After the words have been spit out
Of angry mouths full of hate
And misunderstanding.

No, I would change the ones
Who have closed minds
And selective hearts.
I would change the ones
Who won't accept the truth
And the ones who never tell it.
I would change the ones
Who boil the frog alive
After raising
The temperature
Ever
So
Slowly.
I would change the ones
Who disrespect
And defile
And demean
The guests in mother's home,
For it is not theirs
To disparage
Or degrade
Or debase.
And I can't forget the ones who
Tease
And pinch
And push
And pick on
The ones who are not,
And never have been,
At fault for being
The person they were
Born
Being.

And if I could change them-
For the better, of course-
Maybe,
Just maybe,
One day
We can wake up
And not be afraid.
