Closed Eyes

when walking around from day to day, i see closed eyes.

eyes of mothers that don't want to see the hardship of what life brings with children and work.

eyes of fathers that are tired and confused about where they stand in a child's life.

eyes of children who seek to understand the world around and be accepted by it at any cost sometimes.

eyes of the president who strives to make the country better than it has been, but with very little help or respect.

eyes of the homeless man or woman that cries because they have no where to go or good food to eat.

eyes of the sophisticated woman who look to jewels and fine clothes to allow them to forget the hardship in her marriage.

eyes of the sophisticated man who seeks refuge with his allies and to avoid turning to a divorce or a drunk.

eyes of the sophsticated child who puts on a mask in front of everyone as if her life was perfect and she was perfect.

yes, closed eyes are all around us, but sometimes we don't see them. we are too busy looking with the natural eye to see when someone is on the edge of destruction.

anger, fear, depression, lonliness, lust, rage, sorrow and guilt play roles in the story of life.

are your eyes truly open or are they closed?
