Circus
Location
Even though I was scared of clowns,
My mom always brought first row tickets to circus
The smell of stale popcorn and cotton candy
Had me nervous
Lions and tigers running loops around their masters,
Elephants on balancing balls and acrobats
Tight rope walkers
It was too much for me
But I couldn’t keep my eyes off the show,
These days, I see the circus all around me,
Like BP’s elephants with excuses on their trunks
Balancing on balls of salt water,
I still can’t keep my mind off the show
The memories follow me to the gas pump.
Oil flows into
My pocket book
Too heavy to seal,
The government has announced the show
"ladies and gentlemen
children of all ages... sit back and expericence the show of a lifetime"
I swear I see ringleaders crack whips,
Filled top hats laced with dollars signs
Wearing there money green and yellow coat tails,
And we are the clowns we feared,
Melted embarrassment
rosey red lipstick and crimson blush
Ashamed to be apart of this show
The tightrope artists walking lines around gas tanks
Losing jobs and livelihood
Acrobats swing to the ceilings of
Seafood restaurant’s losing business
Jumping from swing to swing
scared to look down
Tourism is demolished
juggling balls of disappointment
Seas of fish have to relocate
This is why I never liked the circus
The smell of rotten hot dogs and crawfish
Standing in the middle of chaos
America, we didn’t ask for these first row seats,
The Gulf of Mexico our stage,
So close to the action
Tiger’s cough up hair balls to soak up this mess
Rings of fire morph into slick hula hoops around the south
Pollutions invades our big top
This cirque de soileil has turned into cirque de petrol
now there trying to clog the spill
Fish turn into the trash that filled the ocean
Sea horses gallop with Atomic bombs
Strapped to there backs
Seals balance containers on their nose
rushing to cover up this leak
The stench of stale oil in the water
I never wanted to play the balancing acts
with broken spills
Never wanted to see the
Seas of fisherman and sailors
Waiting in aggravation
The show has been running so long
Their handing out free tickets
we have been forced to watch the spectale
Your peanut excuses and tumbling acts will not keep here,
How long will it be before we turn our backs
Turn off the TVs and radios
Return to our lives
Or will it just be another day at the circus?
