Cinderella: A New Friend

A breezy fall evening approaches.

She watches them ride by in the coaches.

A young girl slips out the bedroom window,

Cozy slippers on foot and facial to make her glow.

A slave to the world of homework,

Forced to tutor her brother the clerk.

Through the window to the outside world she’ll see,

Moving through the forest, chasing the music of the tree.

When suddenly a limo sweeps by,

Taking her in like a stye.

Bewilderment hovers; fear strikes,

How awful if they stole her bikes

To a farm she goes,

Welcomed by a rose.

Finding herself at a western dance,

She meets a farmer, has a chance.

Rushing out at the dead of night,

Cinderella left a slipper, took a flight.

The farmer could not find her you see,

Her face covered, with a knot of glee.

Searching high and low the farmer goes,

Looking for his princess, the one who fits the toes.

A fun, genuine girl he will find,

Without a mask, her face full and kind.

Knowing without the slipper, putting it on to be sure,

That it is the simple girl, petite and demure.

Best friends they become, you see;

Friendship makes them both free.

No courting, weddings, or romance,

Because that is not always what results from a dance.
