For Chris

His eyes

as I said goodbye

hurt worse than the pain of being with him.

In them I saw an accusation

In them I saw a potent hurt

I remembered an unexpected, breathless kiss

When he grabbed me by the chin and dove right in

And I ran

With that kiss

That fervent kiss

He thrust me up

A stumbling step

Kissed my lips and placed me there

Balancing on tippy toes

On a pedestal so high

He looked at me

"Don't fall," he whispered

So I pushed him off instead

I swan dived after him

To land on his shattered body

The blood stained cheeks

The kiss the blank hazel eyes

I took away a piece of his heart

And kept it for my silent words

The truths I couldn't tell him.
