Checkerboard

She holds pure white flowers,
With slender cream colored hands.
She glides down the church alone,
In an ivory dress for her man.

He stands tall at the altar,
His black suit matching his skin.
He smiles at his pearl lover,
Waiting for new life to begin.

The pews collect dust,
For the congregation spotted a wrong.
But the bride continues her march,
Humming the Checkerboard Lover’s song.

'Hate is blind to love,
Love is blind to color,
I am blind to these differences,
And so this is how we love the other.
