A captive heart

Today I wish to tell you a story
Not one for recognition or glory.
To tell you of a man who found himself lost.
Who tries to find his way back at any cost.
Wandering deeper into the dark
Hell bent on his mission like a blood thirsty shark.
Further and further he goes in to the pits of despair
Fatigue on his mind and body begins to ware.
His once monstrous ambition slowly breaks away
His words don't carry the same certainty as in the past day.
Feelings of regret begin to swarm
As he longs for the only place he's ever felt warm.
He abandoned everything he ever loved
In the beginning a corner is where his heart was shoved.
Maybe emotions clouded his judgment,
Maybe because his heart couldn't follow where his mind went.
Whatever the case he no longer knows his reflection
For it shows man who's broken smile shares no affection.
Still he moves further into the dark of the jungle
Crawling amongst the ground like a beast in the jungle.
His mind wanting to quit but his heart wants to survive
Through hell he crawled just barely alive.
Every passing moment he wished for death
Until the moment he thought was his last breath.
He realised death wouldn't end the pain,
All his troubles would then be in vain.
To his feet he stumbles
With each step he feels the leaves crumble.
Light began to shine between the trees
The pure disbelief brings him to his knees.
They've been searching for him all this time
His cries come out silent like a mime.
To understand the reason to live
He had his pride stripped with a shive.
He now lives on with his heart to give.
