Captain Abandons Ship

In this modern world we are all dolls

We seem well and happy to the public

But inside our hearts burn like hot coals

Everyday I wear my plastic smile

It seems like my life is perfect

Once I get home my plastic spoils

In the evening we head to the shore

We pull in our ships of skeletons,

Leave the other dolls, and climb aboard

My house is the ocean

My sisters are a ship

I am the Captain

They see me as their leader, their guide

My ship will forever have my heart

I defend it from the tide

The tides grew stronger

The ship's fate was inevitable

Each hit was harder

The ship is no longer stable

A life boat appears

They beg to take me to safety

I refuse with tears

For the ship would never leave me

A stronger wave knocks me to the floor

I fight against the wave

But my fighting was poor

Another wave is in sight

I regain my balance

It hits me to the wall with might

I have no chance

The life boat begs out again

I think for a moment

Then I grab their hand

This story you've just been told

Is a real story hidden in the poems metaphors

For the truth you cannot behold

I cannot write my stories like a book

For that could tear down my ship

Call me a crook

I express in code

So my ship isn't taken,

So you don't take the load,

And so it won't be mistaken

I like the overall context, and what I percieve as changes in pace throughout the poem. These changes of pace keep my attention, as I look to see what differs this time around.
