She stared at him blankly as she tried to understand what he had just said.
She felt her heart break, felt it crumble.
A tear slid down her face as he said something more,
But she did not hear the hushed mumble.
Memories of them flashed as the words he said circled round in her head.
The laughs they had shared, the warmth of his arms, his warm gentle kiss.
The way he brought her up when she was sad,
How he made her smile even when he made her mad.
How could she live without all this?
Then she got angry,
He had lied.
Two years they had shared together and she loved him more than life itself.
How could he do this to her when he promised to love her until the day that he died?
"How could you do this to me? I love you." She whispered finding her voice.
"I'm sorry," he answered. "I hope we can still be friends. I thought I loved you but those feelings just aren't true."
His words drove through her like a hundred jagged knives.
The tears found their way up and out of her eyes.
She had to run.
She got home, collapsed on her bed wishing she could just die.
He had been the only thing holding her together, the only thing to live for.
School and home hadn't been too great.
The kids all bullied, her parents yelled and judged.
Now that he didn't want her she didn't know what to do.
She decided she would pop some pills, no one would be home until late.
She was getting ready, she said her prayers.
Then she took the walk to her bathroom, down the stairs.
Before she popped the first few, the phone rang.
She decided to answer it one last time,
She could wait a minute or two before she committed her crime.
She answered the phone and recognized her friends voice.
"Oh Ashley," She said"I'm so sorry to hear about you and Tim. Forget him, he's a jerk. You did nothing wrong. I know you loved him and it must have really hurt. But remember I'm here for you, friends until the end. In me you'll find comfort."
She broke down as she realized what she had almost done.
How could she have been so stupid?
She put the pills down and walked away as she talked to her friend, thanking her for saving her life.
