Every day is another day to get it right
I got a camera around my neck,
A soldier by my side.

My personal California Poppy
Black and white.
Spots of sin,
But she’s a saint in my sight.

He whispered in the wind, “Salvation is real.”
His physicality slowly drifted into the earth.
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Salvation is real and I got proof.

He whispered it to my heart and
Left a Poppy by my side.
Black and white, with sharp teeth.
We’re all sinners, but she’s a saint.

Grab the plastic casing,
Look through that glass eye.
I’ve captured you in time,
As he whispered to the light,
“Salvation is real.”
Every day is another to get it right.

My California Poppy grounding me
With a crooked smile,
A powerful tail.
She seems to whisper to my heart,
“Salvation is real.”
