The "Cain" in me

John 1:11-13

11 He came to what was His own, but His own people did not receive Him.

12 But to all who have received Him—those who believe in His name—

He has given the right to become God’s children 13 —children not born

by human parents or by human desire or a husband’s decision, but by God.

My flesh will scheme and plan

and decide to do much good

in order to receive

much favor from The Lord.

It will seldom stop

in effort and commitment

to fill itself with glory

to be recognized by God.

Cain is a good example.

He gave the best he had.

He wanted to trade his righteousness

for The Holiness of God.

In the blood of Abel

that was spilled through Cain’s transgression

the world received the signal,

of the mystery of God.
