Burnout and divine inspiration

Have you ever held a child as she cried?
Have you ever hated knowing why?

There are many monsters to be slain

So many innocents to be reclaimed.

Seeking to shine a light in a dark world,

Seeking to be shelter for a weary soul,

Surely hope isn’t so hard to find‒

But if it is please share mine!

The weary clutch your heart,

Their painful nails digging so sharp.

Surely if I hold out, salvation is anon

Surely my flame will last us both ‘til the dawn!

When did mercy, grace, and love

Become the gifts I was sick of?

I was made to show compassion to my fellow man,

But now I wake and truly wonder if today I can.

But crawling within myself cannot be the way,

We all know cowardice will never save the day!

Burnout is a burden I will never claim,

To say “I’m worn” would feel like shame.

Listen: The world is dark; the night is long

But take a moment to breathe a prayer, a song.

God above, guard my heart!
I don’t even know where to start!

Help me find the balance between folly and grace,

Help me to serve while seeking Your face.

The answer to all this world’s pain

Is not me‒it has never been.

You alone inspire me,

You breathe into my soul and I’m at peace.

Thank for Your mercy and grace,

May I learn love while seeking your face.
