Broken pieces

When you look in the mirror, what is it you see?

are you able to fathom the intricate details that most people ignore?

the first time I looked into your eyes, I had to look away and choke down a sob that was trying to escape.

In those wonderful technicolor eyes,

I saw the shadows of something deep ,

A pain that was all too familiar.

and in that moment, you became someone else,

your broken pieces looked a lot like mine

you asked me, "What do you want from me?"

As if I wanted you to cut off a piece and hand it to me.

how many times have you broken off pieces of yourself

for someone else's happiness?

To make someone else whole?

I won't take from you

forever distorting the masterpiece that is you.

Every crack and broken piece allows flickers from within to come through.

Like the sun shining through broken shards of colored glass.

I see the beauty in the broken pieces

You've been used and forgotten.

left broken, bleeding, bruised

Yet despite it all you somehow made a mosaic masterpiece out of your broken pieces that leave me in awe

you ask me what I want?

I want to wander through the labyrinth you created!

every corner leading to something more complex than the last.

Watch the sun rise through the multi colored pieces you made out of your broken pieces

I want to watch the light create a technicolor wonderland in your eyes

Quietly discover the complexity of you within this maze you've crafted.

I want to slide my hands across your skin and watch goosebumps appear

To press my lips against your collar bone and feel you shiver

I want to experience the rigid grip of your hands around my throat paired with the softness of your voice as you whisper in my ear

I want to exist here for a while.

Not take from you

Not to break off pieces and devour them

But to admire what you've created with your broken pieces.

And maybe someday I'll show you mine
