Brave - By Lindsey Marie

Brave
Where went respect
And equality
When did chivalry fall?
I cannot tell you
So easily
By no means of mine at all.
There is no medicine
Can cure my ails
No visit or doctor’s call
Can fix a broken heart
Like mine
Like a face of a porcelain doll
There is no peace
There are only glares
Smiles no longer
Only angry stares
Hearts filled with worry
And burdens to bear
You hear the lonely girl’s call
Does it cease? No, not at all.
There is no fortune
Can be read
Neither vision nor crystal ball
Can tell you the pain
And the anguish here
The sorrow that searches to scald
Such little support
Such violent men
Who cease to drink and brawl
But you’re worth much more
Than they’ll admit
You’re not just a brick in a wall
What to say
What to incur
Out of 6 billion people
They pick on her
She’s lost in a crowd
Her cries aren’t heard
There you’ll hear the lonely girl’s call
Will she cease? No, not at all.
The tireless fight
A person must face
To a person the burden appalls
To be scarred again
And left for dead
The bullied have such resolve!
To get back up
When knocked back down
To never beg nor crawl
To fight right back
When under attack
Her soul still gives it’s all
There must be peace
Problems fixed
Bruises healed
Hearts re-stitched
People no longer
Abused or kicked
This is the brave girl’s call
Will she cease? No, not at all.
She’ll stop at nothing
To end this suff’ring
This is her brave soul’s call
She’ll stop at nothing…nothing at all.

This poem is so powerful and the anti-bullying message is very strong! My favorite lines are " But you’re worth much more / Than they'll admit / You’re not just a brick in a wall." Adding a video with pictures that matched what you were speaking gave the poem an even bigger impact.
