Body Gratitude
I look in the mirror and I like what I see.
Curves.
Muscle.
A smile.
Scars.
A rib cage,
with a beating heart beneath it.
A head,
with a beautifully complicated brain inside of it.
We’ve been through a lot, my body and I.
It hasn’t always been this way – this mutual love between us.
I used to hate my body.
It was me,
Against my body,
Against the world.
But now?
It’s me,
And my body,
Against the world.
I am grateful that my body still loves me,
That after all the hate I’ve spewed at it,
She still wants to be on my team.
My body has taught me this:
There is always grace.
She has shown me grace,
And now I show her grace,
And together,
We show grace to the world.
