Bite Your Lip

I wrote this 20 years ago about a little girl in my class (I was a pre-k teacher) who was being molested.
As I have gotten older I am finding it harder to remember things I have written
and I am not much at sharing I'm afraid.  I wanted to get it down somewhere
before I get so damn old I can't remember anything!

Anyway....for Kristina...she'd be in her late 20s now, hope she's okay.

Hush little darling don't say a word
daddy's gonna call you absurd
It doesnt matter what you say occurred
the tears in your eyes have your vision blurred

You can hide inside a fantasy
escape from this insanity
you can recreate your reality
where no one knows this is because of me

Hush little darling this is between me and you
daddy's gonna buy you something new
just don't tell mommy what I do
bite your lip and see this through

Revel here in your disgrace
and don't talk about the memories you can't erase
don't let your daddy fall from grace
bite your lip and paint a pretty face

though living this lie has taken its toll
go on and punish yourself for what you couldn't control
I know how it hurts you, this solace you've turned to
but that's all that can cure you

Let that needle take you away
from a past that haunts you day to day
There's no light at the end of this darkened cave
there'll be no penance for the price you've paid

Hush little darling don't shed a tear
or I'll slit your throat from ear to ear
you know I'll make you disappear
so bite your lip and live in fear

Hush little darling don't say a word
Daddy's gonna call you absurd
no matter what you say occurred
hush little darling, don't say a word.
