The Bird Feeder

Birds on feeder—never still

Greedy beaks come take their fill

Flutter on and flutter off

Hungry squirrels stop, stare, and scoff

Kernel, seed drop to the ground

Eager scavengers abound

A messy sight, like fast love

Impatient men both push and shove

Or do whatever it may take

Leaving in their wake mistakes

Vulnerable kernels on the ground

Children praying to be found

Fathers flutter back and forth

In the moment, no remorse
