The Bird in the Cage

The bird flies freely, no worries at all.

Flies with her flock, amongst the stars.

Pretty and happy is she.

Happy she is finally free.

A bird with no cage,

That is what she is.

Though she is different from the rest,

She is still happy and free.

Though many can see her obvious flaws,

No one holds it against her.

For they look and see inside her heart.

They see joy, and know that she is happy and free.

All of a sudden, something hits her hard.

She falls from the sky to the ground.

Before she knows what just occured

A tainted arrow sent her into a peaceful, dreamless sleep.

The bird awakens, startled to find

Herself locked in a cage.

She does her best not to cry and

Hide the fear she has inside.

She tries to escape from the cage,

And sees that her wing had been clipped.

She mourns the loss of her freedom

Afraid she will never fly the same again.

She has a lot of work to do,

In order for her to make it through.

Though she doesn’t know quite what to do,

She knows she has to try.

Week after week, she trudges along,

Trying to make it to where she was before.

Wanting to  improve herself,

and longing to be like everyone else.

The stronger she gets, her confidence grows.

It blooms inside her like a big red rose.

She begins to feel like herself again,

Awaiting for the day

She can finally be free.

That day came a few weeks later

After that traumatic night.

Because she found a new way to fly,

And she knew everything would be alright!
