Behind Closed Doors

He came over

eyes livid

 jaw clenched, chin forward

body stiff.

a tiger waiting to pounce

I watched

from the rain soaked window

called the police

and when they came

spoke to him;

He left;

Its 2 AM and I hear

  his elephant footsteps before I see them

    and he runs up and says we can talk it out but my mind

       is clouded with fear and he’s advancing toward me and I yell 

        “go away”s and “leave me alone”s and he’s getting bigger and I’m getting

              smaller and the room is closing in around me and I’m trapped in this game of

                  cat and mouse I don’t want to play and I hear the gun and the bullet flies and timeslowsdown

It’s not fair that we live in a world where a woman saying no to a man

will end with having her breath taken away.
