Beautiful Tattoos

Today as i exited the graveyard I saw this woman
And i cannot say exactly why
But she put my mind at rest
She had short black hair and a cigarette in her hand
And her beauty was breathtaking
But most certainly not raw
She was sitting outside of an old building
Around the corner from a tattoo shop
Which i guess was convenient for her
Considering she had tattoos covering her arms and chest
Like a map to her soul spread out for those to see
Inked onto her body like a scarlet letter
She had many piercings along her ears and a few on her face
I wondered if she had gotten those all at once
No probably not
She probably got her first as a little girl, eager to have earrings
Had probably begged her dad until he took her to the closest place around I bet she was excited when they left sporting her new jewels
Maybe she got the next holes after going to a rock concert in her teens
She probably couldn't wait to go to school the next day and show off to her friends
And the nose ring?
She probably got that on the unexplained road trip with her lover
Probably just up and left her family and never looked back
And as i looked at this woman I saw the hard look in her eyes
And her expressionless face
But i think maybe it was just a cover
Maybe she regrets one of her tattoos
Or a piercing
Or leaving
