The Beautiful, The Brave
Give me your tired, your poor,
You huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
These words, breathe Mother of Exiles, standing at the door.
Seeking to bring all those, but in vain.
Corrupt politicians seeking the opposite,
Bringing in those who would hurt, not those in pain.
Bring not the Christians, bring not the Jews,
Bring in the those who are not persecuted.
Oh yes, we accept the Christian, the Jew, but how few? How few?
We exclaim that acceptance and freedom is what we seek!
Yet when the God-fearing man cries that it is forbidden, unnatural!
He is verbally abused until he is weak.
Man changes to woman, and woman changes to man.
And but years ago science said two genders existed.
Now look and see, any resistance is not permitted, a ban.
We yell and declare that torture is a sin within.
Still, doctors kill hundreds of lives every day,
And we can't seem to agree on when that life will begin.
Those on both sides of the aisle exclaim,
We need more laws for the environment! Global warming!
Yet behind closed doors do they create discord? Tis but a game.
Maybe what we all need to do is to find some common ground.
Try to find the why and the what, not shift the blame.
And we shall see the progress we have found.
