Beating of the Drum

Thump...

         Thump...

                  Thump...

One cannot contrive a new melodic anecdote,

To enchant all followers, needing the antidote.

                    Thump...

           Thump...

Thump...

It must beat to the rhythm of your ever-bound heart,

I fear, though, you two must soon depart--

Thump-

   Thump-

      Thump-

Fear not, the quickening pace,

Though one does not depart in grace.

      Thump-

   Thump-

Thump-

But fear is rising, the cresendo leading to a deafening wall,

Stop, Slow down! Cease it all!

Thump-

 Thump-

  Thump-

It is no use, the director's arms flail this way and that,

For he cannot hear my futile screams of raging combat.

 Thump-

 Thump-

Thump-

I cannot bear it no longer, my screams appall those around me,

They look in discust to determine what is wrong with me.

THUMP!
THUMP!
THUMP!

My utter peril sends me shuddering through the dark

My earbuds falling, daintily on my lap.

THUMP!
THUMP!
THUMP!

Chest heaving, heart beating nearly out of my chest,

My world returns to normal, I can see the thoughts of the rest.

Thump-

 Thump-

  Thump-

Their glares answer all questions,

They all know classical music to be one of my addictions.

  Thump-

 Thump-

Thump...

They know not of the beauty,

They know not of the study.

Thump-

   Thump-

       Thump-

Rest in peace,

May your body be wrapped in fleece.

       Thump-

   Thump-

Thump-

My gift to you, straight from my heart,

I fear, though, we too must soon depart--

Thump...

        Thump...

               Thump...

Fear not, the quickening pace,

Though one does not depart in grace.

               Thump...

         Thump...

Thump...
