Battle for the Mind

Caught within the confines

Of the whitewashed picket fence

All she dreams of is the skyline

In the city of no pretence

Her dreams she left neglected

Logic ruled her mind

To music her heart beckoned

But to hope she isn’t kind

The artist and the scholar

Fought with tooth and nail

Which ever side would falter

The other would prevail
