Backwards (For the Fear)

Each step she makes towards freedom, she then takes three steps backwards

For the fear of failing

For the fear of falling

For the fear of the truth

She takes three steps backwards

She once grew like a vine

Nothing in her way

Nothing to stop her from reaching her potential

But she shriveled up

As if the sun had dried all the love and happiness out of her

She gained her strength from a source

Which seemed to burn out

As the days grew longer

The nights shorter

She walked backwards with the fear of independence

Loneliness

Lack of connection

Emptiness

But the crave for connection drew her out

Of a shell that she hid in from the world

She reached out

With those same fears

She broke free

From the mistrust that she grew to know

She blossomed
